Overview Demolition of a 400 MW coal-fired power plant constructed in 1949 located in Shamokin Dam, PA. The project involved the abatement and demolition of approximately 1 million square feet of plant facilities, including 6 boiler units with 300 ft. stacks and a 150 ft. tall coal conveyor system. The project was multifaceted and involved the following demolition methods: Manually dismantling and rigging out the steam turbine generator units, condensers and piping; Selective demolition of the lower levels of the boiler houses and precipitators; Conventional demolition with hydraulic excavators; Balling with crawler cranes and Explosives demolition. FRB also coordinated and managed the removal of approximately 1,000 tons of ACM. All of this work took place in close proximity to an active gas-fired power plant, switchyard, and intake house.
