Project Name RBHS Newark Cogen - Rutgers University Hospital
Service(s) Heavy Rigging, Selective Demolition, Decommissioning
Completion Date June 2020
Overview Selective demolition of 3 natural gas fired boiler units and associated equipment in an active cogen plant located in Newark, NJ. The plant was built circa 1987 and serviced University Hospital. Due to the active plant and limited access, the majority of the demolition work had to be performed manually. The units were dismantled or torch cut into manageable sections and rigged out. Again, due to limited access, a 550-ton crane (Mega Wing Lift w/ Luffing Jib) was utilized to hoist the 4 gas compressor skids and associated equipment out of the compressor yard. These critical lifts were all blind picks relying solely on radio communication. Another 110-ton crane was utilized to pick various equipment off the roof.
